Welcome back to this AMV countdown my brother and I started on a whim while watching YouTube.
As a reminder, to get on this list, we looked for AMVs that scored 9-10 in the following categories:
Timing, Tone, Music Choice, Fluidity, Characterization, Aestheticism
Once we deemed an AMV up to par with these standards, we include the following categories to weed out the Great AMVs with the Excellent AMVs and later the Near-perfect AMVS.
Promotional Value, Emotionalism, Using the Music/Lyrics to its Full Advantage, Personal Opinion
For this list, I’ll include the AMV, so you can watch it at your own leisure. To watch the amvs, click the photos and it will re-direct you straight to the source material. Let’s get started!

20. Let Us Be Brave, missing chances (2011)
This is one of three AMVs that make me tear up. I might love FMA a little TOO much, but it is truly beautiful to watch. This is also one of the few AMVs that uses writing well in its shots. I also liked how it is the creator’s individual view on the show and its meaning for them.
The only reason why we put it down a little lower is because it has foggy imagery in one scene.

19. Glitter and Gold, Neo Solarius 2016
Behold! The one AMV I really like this song in. I’ve seen this AMV many times and my musical, rhythm loving self enjoys watching its joyous synchronization!
The only reason why it went a little lower is because a tiny part of the song was taken out. Why? I don’t know.

18. Dusk Till Dawn, Vichima 2017
I wouldn’t be surprised if this song’s writers saw this movie and decided to write a song, because it fits it so well! I’m not as far on the Your Name train but I do appreciate how breathtakingly beautiful this movie is. It made me cry when I first watched it.
The only reason we put it somewhat lower is because its ending had weird pacing.

This is part of a series you’ll notice made me cry. I watched a lot of Violet Evergreen AMVs and this was the most beautiful. It tells Violet and the major’s stories in such a way I really feel the weight of them.
I nitpicked for this one and decided the writing didn’t fit into the screen well.

16. Cinders, Chiikaboom 2020
I’ve never seen the show this AMV is based on, but I definitely want to now! Wonder song choice, pacing and buildup. Through this video, I understand the characters, their motivations and their stories. Story worth telling
The only reason why it is somewhat lower like the others is because of emotionality and personal preference.

15. Ghost of You, Vichima 2020
I don’t really want to watch this movie because I don’t want its strange pacing to ruin this gorgeous AMV for me. From what I know, this enhances the original material and captures the story’s heart. It is altogether beautiful.
From this point on really, most of the choices are personal preference related.

14. This is War, Gohan 2013
Hot dang, if there was an AMV that encompassed the sheer weight of this show here it is! It is altogether satisfying to watch it and how triumphant the ending was. Don’t watch it until you’ve seen the show.
Also, I put this down lower because of one shot of cartoony Edward.

13. Game Over, SliceofLife 2015
This AMV perfectly encapsulates the show. through its excellent pacing it captures the ugly beauty of humanity and how difficult it really is to understand people.
We both put it down lower because we didn’t like the font for the writing.

12. Pure White Gold, Sean.PNG 2018
I keep trying to watch this show. Really I do. I especially feel guilty about not doing so fully whenever I see this AMV. It is the ONE good AMV for this show. It makes me appreciate the hard work the animators put into it.
My brother and I agreed it would go slightly lower because of the one fast old guy in that one scene

10. Singular Strike Gentlemen, Glitzer 2016
The story isn’t as important as the others. It’s one goal is to be funny, but also gets you excited. I laugh every time I see this AMV and enjoy showing it to other fans of the show. It might be the only time I actually like a 70s or 80s style song for an AMV.
Thanks for reading/watching! See you for the last installment in the list.
